Bonza Airlines has announced opening its third base at Gold Coast Airport in a significant move for Australian aviation, marking a major stride for the emerging carrier.

With this expansion, the airline is set to introduce 70 new weekly flights and almost 700,000 additional passenger seats per year to and from the popular Gold Coast destination.

Two aircraft will be stationed at the Gold Coast base, allowing Bonza to connect iconic travel spots like Albury, Bundaberg, Cairns, Gladstone, Mackay, Melbourne Avalon, Melbourne Tullamarine, Mildura, Rockhampton, Townsville, and the Whitsunday Coast to the bustling coastal hub.

The move is expected to invigorate the regional economy and offer affordable travel options for residents and tourists. CEO Tim Jordan expressed enthusiasm about the development, emphasising the airline’s mission to connect communities while fostering local growth.

“New routes from the Gold Coast also mean locals from South Brisbane down to Northern NSW regions, like Ballina and Byron Bay, have the chance to explore their own backyard with low-cost flights,” Jordan stated.

As Bonza takes on the Australian aviation scene, it’s clear that the airline is committed to addressing underserved markets. The carrier aims to break the duopoly held by Qantas and Virgin Australia while demonstrating its dedication to providing diverse route options.

Amelia Evans, CEO of Queensland Airport Limited, lauded the partnership between Bonza and Gold Coast Airport, projecting an economic boon for the region.

“Not only will Bonza bring more tourists to the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales region, allowing our destination to showcase our region, it will also open up connections for our locals to connect with loved ones across regional Australia,” Ms Evans remarked.

The launch of the Gold Coast base positions Bonza as a promising contender in the Australian airline industry, shaking up established norms and fostering increased competition for travellers and communities nationwide.
