The Couple That Slays Together: How These Young Entrepreneurs Built A $52m Business Despite Making Every Mistake In The Book

Must Read

Stax’s founders have made it onto the list of Australia’s wealthiest people under 40. Their company is a story of love – and athleisure.

In January next year, Stax’s co-owners – a married couple, Don Robertson and Matilda Murray – will be moving from their current warehouse in Sydney’s Banksmeadow into an even bigger one that is only next door. This new warehouse is 12 times the size of their original one, yet this still marks the company’s fourth move/change in warehouses within only eight years.

“Do you remember the first warehouse?” Murray said to Robertson. “It was small enough to fit only a car, and we thought it was huge then. We’ve come a long way since then–we’re in a warehouse that is 12 times bigger than that one now, but it’s still too cramped for us.”

Robertson and Murray are the young entrepreneurs behind Stax, a fast-growing athleisure brand specialising in stylish yet functional workout gear. The company has been at the top of its game for the past few years, clocking over $52 million in sales last year alone.

There is no doubt that Robertson and Murray have made many mistakes along the way, but they still have to pursue their dream of creating a successful business. Some of these mistakes include underestimating how long it would take to get funding and scaling too quickly.

“At the beginning, we didn’t know anything about starting and running a business,” says Murray. “We made many mistakes along the way, but we took each of those errors as learning experiences and ensured that we didn’t repeat them.”

But despite all that, Robertson and Murray have managed to build an incredibly successful brand, which is the envy of many other entrepreneurs.

One piece of advice that Robertson and Murray can give to other entrepreneurs is this: never give up on your dreams. With a lot of hard work and dedication, you, too, can achieve success in your own business. So keep pushing forward, stay focused on your goals, and don’t be afraid to take risks along the way.
