US-Based Management Consultancy Extends PEPI in Australia

New York-based global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) recently disclosed that it is expanding its practice in Australia. The company’s move was to support its new division in the region.

A&M was founded in 1983 when Tony Alvarez II and Bryan Marsal wanted to realise their goal of seamlessly linking operations, performance improvement and value creation. Their vision was to help these companies address areas of improvement and turn them into valuable parts of the companies’ overall goals.

A&M continued to grow and offered its services to many companies worldwide. Moreover, just recently, the consulting company landed on the Australian shore. On 2 February, the company announced the appointment of Melbourne-based Timo Schmid as managing director and leader of the company’s Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) practice in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ).

Schmid was part of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for six years before deciding to move to A&M. His move was seamless as he held a similar position in BCG.. In an interview, Schmid commented, “A&M’s value proposition is unique in the ANZ market. The firm’s performance improvement focus across the investment life-cycle stems from its operational heritage, results-driven mindset, and integrated platform. These factors combined with A&M’s deep bench of functional experts and experienced operators help to deliver accelerated value creation for clients.”

Renee Klimczak, managing director and overall performance improvement practice leader for ANZ, stated that Schmid’s addition to the team would create value for private equity clients. Schmid’s expertise would complement the team’s large-scale transformation capabilities.

The move was made to support the recent establishment of the firm’s Southeast Asia and Australia (SEAA) division. And launching PEPI in Australia was the best move to support the company’s vision to expand into the region.

Utsav Garg, managing director and head of A&M’s SEAA division, noted that “we are excited to offer our Australia clients the full suite of private equity, commercial and operational pre-deal diligence and post-deal value creation services.”
