Young Rich List for 2022 Is Out, and Here’s How the E-commerce Rich Listers Did

Must Read

AFR released the 2022 Young Rich list, which features Australia’s most promising next-gen entrepreneurs under the age of 40. We compare the top e-commerce players’ performance on the 2021 list to their usual standards following a tumultuous year.

E-commerce Rich Listers

Ruslan Kogan Is Ranked 23rd ($292 Million)

Ruslan Kogan ranked #23 on the 2021 Young Rich list with a $434 million net worth. The year 2020 saw $685 million in earnings. The fluctuations of this wealth are noticeable in the market through Kogan’s ASX listing. Kogan will still have great products, as consumers no longer buy products at the same rate they were during the lockdown.

Dean Mintz: #27 ($252 Million)

In 2021, Mintz made his debut on the Young Rich list at #12 with a net worth of $617 million. In 2017, he launched Cettire- an e-commerce marketplace for luxury items. Mintz has taken a major hit as consumers have shifted back to shopping in physical stores. Losing $1 million daily, his net worth has decreased by over $300 million after shares in Cettire plummeted more than 60 per cent.

Sean Senvirtne: #39 ($155 Million)

Senvirtne is one of the few people who has managed to improve its ranking. After Mydeal.com.au’s record revenue of $65 million in 2021-22, Woolworths has had a majority stake in the company since September this year. It appears to have boosted the company’s ranking. With the recent data breach at Woolworths and Mydeal, it will be interesting to track how Senvirtne fares on the Young Rich list in the coming year.

David Shafer is in 43rd place ($134 Million)

Kogan CFO David Shafer has dropped six spots in the ranking. As of 2021, he is ranked #37 with a net worth of $171 million. Like Ruslan Kogan, it’s been a tough year with an overabundance of inventory and less demand than expected.

Werner Liu: Ranked #47 ($120 Million)

Werner Liu’s place on the list demonstrates the difference between this year’s list and last year’s, as he has climbed six ranks up from #53 with a net worth of $120 million.

 Jane Lu: #77 ($53 Million)

Despite some challenges with logistics, Showpo has done well this year. They have invested in new technologies and signed up for a trial with Meta to use AI technology for their clothing line. Lu, the youngest e-commerce player on the Young Rich list, is one to watch.
